Trump Leaves Troop Deployment Option Open in Iran War

Trump Explains What “Unconditional Surrender” Means

Donald Trump only gave a general reason for his demand that Iran accept “unconditional surrender.” Trump told reporters on Air Force One that the phrase meant Iran would stop fighting altogether. He said that the result could happen when Iran’s leaders or military can no longer fight back.

But Trump didn’t say much about what political conditions would need to be met for such a surrender to happen. People say that the lack of clarity makes it hard to figure out what Washington really wants to get out of the conflict. There are still questions about what the US wants from Iran’s government or future leaders.

Ground Troops Remain a Possible Option

Trump also didn’t say he wouldn’t send American troops to Iran. He stressed that no such choice has been made yet, but he said it could be looked at later in the conflict. For now, the U.S. military still mostly uses airstrikes in its operations.

Trump said that 1 possible reason for sending troops to the ground could be to protect enriched uranium at Iranian nuclear sites. In the past, the U.S. has attacked these sites. How the war goes will affect any future decisions about troop deployment.

Proposal for Kurdish Invasion Turned Down

Trump also said during the same speech that he doesn’t want Kurdish forces to take part in an invasion of Iran. Some people in Washington who make decisions had apparently heard about the idea. Reports said that Kurdish groups might be armed or given help for this kind of operation.

Trump disagreed with the idea, saying that bringing in Kurdish forces could make an already unstable conflict in the region even worse. He said that adding more people to the war would make it even more complicated. The choice shows worries about making tensions in the region worse.

Conflict Expands After Initial Airstrikes

The US and Israel started the war by bombing Iranian targets from the air. 1 of the first attacks killed Ali Khamenei while he was meeting with high-ranking officials in Tehran. Since then, military operations have been going on in many places.

The campaign has included attacks on Iran’s military infrastructure and important sites. Iran has attacked back all over the region. The escalation has made people more afraid that more Middle Eastern countries will get involved in the conflict.

Trump Goes to Ceremony for Fallen Soldiers

Trump also went to Dover Air Force Base to attend the dignified transfer ceremony for U.S. service members who died in the early days of the war. The ceremony was for the return of 6 American soldiers who died in the first battles. The president was with high-ranking officials like Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The ceremony was a serious moment in the middle of the war. As the bodies of the dead soldiers were taken off a military transport plane, Trump saluted the flag-draped cases. These kinds of ceremonies are traditional military honors for service members who died in battle.

War Timeline Remains Uncertain

Trump had said before that the military campaign could last about 4 weeks. But officials in the administration have recently said that the conflict could last for a few more months. Trump wouldn’t give a specific time frame when asked about it.

He called the operation a “short excursion,” but he also said that how long it lasts depends on what happens on the battlefield. Military leaders are still looking at how things are changing. International observers are worried about how long the war might last because of the uncertainty.

Civilian Casualties and Ongoing Investigations

The conflict has also come under fire for reports of civilian deaths. A strike that destroyed a school building in southern Iran was 1 event that caused a lot of debate. Reports say that the attack killed at least 175 people, many of whom were children.

Right now, the Pentagon is looking into what happened. Some news organizations have said that the strike might have happened at the same time as an attack on a military base nearby. Trump said those claims were false and blamed Iran for the damage.
