European Businesses Rapidly Embrace Artificial Intelligence Tools
20% of EU businesses with 10 or more employees said they used AI technologies in their work in 2025. This number is a big jump of 6.5 percentage points from 2024, showing that businesses are becoming more confident in technology.
AI adoption rates across sectors have more than doubled in only four years, from 7.7% in 2021 to 8.1% in 2023. This shows that digital transformation is happening faster than ever.
Northern Europe Leads AI Integration Across Member States
Denmark, Finland, and Sweden were the first countries in Europe to adopt AI, with utilization rates of 42%, 37.8%, and 35%, respectively. These countries have always been among the most digitally sophisticated economies on the continent.
Adoption, on the other hand, stayed low in Eastern Europe, where Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria said that fewer than 9% of businesses used AI systems.
Most EU Nations See Year-on-Year AI Growth in 2025
Compared to 2024, almost all EU countries saw a rise in the number of businesses that use artificial intelligence. Denmark had the fastest yearly rise, with an increase of 14.5 percentage points in adoption.
Finland and Lithuania came next, with rises of 13.5 and 12.5 points, respectively. This shows that AI modernization is becoming more common in the area.

Text and Language Processing: Top AI Applications in Europe
In 2025, the most popular use of AI in business was to analyze written language. This was done by 11.8% of businesses in the EU. More and more businesses are using AI-driven text analytics to make communication and data management better.
Other big uses are making multimedia content like photographs, movies, or music (9.5%); making written or spoken language (8.8%); and turning speech into text that computers can read (7.2%).
Strong Growth in Language-Focused AI Capabilities
The biggest annual growth in AI adoption for textual language analysis was 4.9 percentage points compared to 2024. This rise shows how natural language processing is becoming more important for things like customer care, automation, and data management.
The number of people who can write or speak also grew by 3.4 percentage points, thanks to the increasing use of AI chatbots and platforms for creating content.
AI Becomes Core to Europe’s Business Competitiveness
Analysts believe the most recent data shows that AI has transitioned from being tested to being used by businesses on a large scale. Companies in Europe are using AI to make their processes better, their analytics better, and their productivity better in all areas.
The European Commission’s Digital Europe Program, which promotes innovation and ethical technology regulation, continues to urge the responsible use of AI.

Experts say that by the end of 2026, more than a quarter of businesses in the EU will utilize AI. This expansion will continue as long as businesses keep investing in data infrastructure and training new employees.
Businesses that adopt AI early are likely to be more efficient, more competitive on a global scale, and have a digital economy that can handle shocks better throughout the European Union.
