Newsom Admits He Is Considering a 2028 Presidential Campaign
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, has said in public that he is seriously thinking about running for president in 2028. The comment was made during an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, in which he talked about his political future after leaving state government.
Newsom, a Democrat who has been critical of Donald Trump for a long time, said he will make a decision after the 2026 midterm elections. He said that nothing is certain, but he would be “lying” if he said he wasn’t thinking about it.

After Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy accused Newsom of ignoring the people of California, things got worse. Duffy said he would not give the state $160 million in federal assistance because of problems with licensing an illegal truck driver.
California officials responded by saying that the federal government had given the driver permission to work several times. They stressed that the number of commercial drivers who die in California is still far lower than the national average.
