Charity Golf Event Raises $84,000 for Local Nonprofits

The Hard Hat Charity Golf Outing, organized by the Northwest Indiana Business Roundtable, raised an amazing $84,000 for five local charities. The event at White Hawk Country Club in Crown Point drew hundreds of people from more than seventy firms.

The gifts helped Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Opportunity Enterprises, Tradewinds Services, Pirates Inc., and the Northwest Indiana Influential Women’s Association. They were twice as big as donations from previous years.

Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana Transitions Leadership

Dawn Michaels, the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana, will step down on December 31 after eight years of service. While she was in charge, the organization extended its housing programs for workers and made community ties stronger.

To make sure development continues, the Board of Directors started a strategy for a change in leadership. Michaels will help with the handover process to keep the organization stable and operations running smoothly.

Franciscan Network Adds New Cardiologist in Michigan City

Dr. Vinod Sehgal has joined the Franciscan Physician Network and is bringing years of experience in cardiology to Michigan City. He got his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and then did fellowships in cardiology and internal medicine.

Dr. Sehgal is now taking on new patients at the Franciscan Medical Pavilion, which makes it easier for people in the area to get heart treatment.

Valpo Parks Foundation Welcomes New Board Members

The Valpo Parks Foundation chose Drew Sarkisian, Josh Schoon, and John Scott as new board members for 2026. They all have different kinds of leadership expertise.

Tim VerSchure is the president, Brandi Anstine and Maggie Clifton are the vice presidents, Melanie Steider is the treasurer, and Kerry Walker is the secretary for 2026.

South Shore Line Launches Holiday Family Discount

The South Shore Line said that kids 13 and under can ride for free with a parent or guardian until January 2. The sale is good for all routes, even those that run on weekends, holidays, and during rush hour.

On December 26, officials said that normal weekday activities will resume. On December 24, 25, and 31, and January 1, the weekend schedule would be followed.

Northwest Health Honors Outstanding Physicians for 2025

Northwest Health honored a number of doctors for their hard work and devotion. Northwest Health – Porter gave the Physician of the Year award to Dr. Tareq Braik, who is both an oncologist and a hematologist.

Dr. Julius Ellis, Dr. Irfan Ahmad, and Dr. Smari Thordarson were also honored for their leadership and long-term work to improve patient care.

Allen Law Group Donates $30,000 to Support Local Families

During the holidays, attorney Kenneth J. Allen and the Allen Law Group gave $30,000 in Meijer gift cards to support families in Lake and Porter counties who were having a hard time.

The donation initiative found families through local schools, which let parents buy gifts for their kids. The company has a long history of sponsoring programs in Indiana and Illinois that promote reading, safety, and youth.
