FRSC Commander Advocates Patience and Respect for Road Safety Officers
Dr Samuel Ibitoye, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, has appealed to motorists and road users to uphold patience and discipline while using the roads. Speaking during the 2025 Customer Service Week celebration held in Akure under the theme “Mission Possible,” Ibitoye emphasised that patience and cooperation are essential to achieving safer roads across Nigeria.
The commander encouraged drivers to appreciate the work of FRSC officers, noting that their presence on highways is not punitive but preventive. “Respect the officers on the roads because they are there to ensure crashes do not happen, and when they do, they are there to rescue,” he said.
Promoting a Road Safety-Motivated Culture
Dr Ibitoye stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires all stakeholders to follow traffic regulations and embrace a culture of caution. He explained that FRSC’s activities — advocacy, enforcement, engineering, and stakeholder collaboration — are focused on keeping Nigerian roads safe and saving lives.
He urged drivers to “let patience be their watchword” whether behind the wheel or as pedestrians and cyclists. He added that collective adherence to road safety principles could drastically reduce fatalities and injuries nationwide.
FRSC Officers Commended for Professionalism
Acknowledging the efforts of his officers, Ibitoye praised their professionalism and dedication to service despite challenges. He encouraged them to remain committed to the Corps’ mission and to transform obstacles into motivation for better performance. “Put more effort on enforcement and advocacy so that people can take ownership of road safety administration,” he said, urging his team to maintain high service quality to protect lives on Nigeria’s roads.
Passengers and Transport Unions Encouraged to Join the Cause
The commander also appealed to passengers to contribute to road safety by discouraging reckless driving and avoiding behaviours that distract drivers. “Passengers should play their part by cautioning speeding drivers and not creating distractions,” he advised.
Representing the Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), State Deputy Secretary Mr Tajudeen Kareem praised the FRSC for its life-saving efforts. He noted that the Corps’ sensitisation and enlightenment programs have significantly changed driver behaviour and improved compliance with traffic laws. “Without the effort of the FRSC, many lives would have been lost on the roads,” he said, pledging the association’s continued cooperation with safety authorities.
Building Safer Roads Through Cooperation
The event highlighted the FRSC’s ongoing commitment to creating a culture of safety and respect among Nigeria’s road users. By reinforcing patience, partnership, and awareness, the Ondo State command hopes to strengthen its campaign for zero road crashes and improved traffic management across the region.
