Government Denies Reports of Nationwide Entertainment Ban
Bangkok, Thailand — The Thai government has made it clear that there is no formal restriction on entertainment events after the death of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, even though initial reports said there would be a 30-day ban.
Traisulee Traisaranakul, the Prime Minister’s Secretary-General, said that the Cabinet did not enact any laws that would make private parties or entertainment illegal. Instead, the government is asking companies and event planners to change their activities to fit with the mood of the country as it mourns.

Cabinet Meeting Focused on Mourning Protocol, Not Restrictions
Traisulee said that the mix-up happened following a Cabinet meeting on October 25, 2025, that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul conducted. The conference was called to talk about how state institutions would respect the mourning period and to acknowledge the Royal Household’s announcement of Queen Sirikit’s death.
During the session, the Cabinet resolved that:
Civil workers, employees of state-owned businesses, and government officials will be in mourning for a year. Starting on October 25, 2025, all government buildings, state-owned businesses, and schools shall fly the national flag at half-mast for 30 days.
Traisulee, on the other hand, highlighted that there was no legal order or resolution to stop entertainment or social events in the private sector.
Prime Minister Anutin Urges Sensitivity, Not Shutdown
Prime Minister Anutin said that the government’s stance is one of collaboration and respect, not restriction. “The government knows that the entertainment, tourist, and service businesses have events planned ahead of time.”
“We just want organizers to be careful and change events to show respect and gratitude for the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother,” Traisulee added. She said that companies and people should keep a respectful environment while going about their daily lives, making sure that public displays of grief are in line with the national grieving mood.

Economic Activities Will Continue as Normal
To clear up any doubt, the administration said again that it does not want to curtail economic freedom or private sector social or cultural activities.
Traisulee said, “The Prime Minister wants to show his sadness with love, respect, and unity.” “The government does not plan to limit the tourism or entertainment industries; instead, we urge respectful changes to current programs.”
Public Urged to Rely on Official Government Announcements
Traisulee also advised the public and the media to check information through official government channels, saying that false rumors spreading online had created unneeded panic.
She told people that the Prime Minister’s message was one of togetherness and asked Thais to engage in national mourning with compassion and mindfulness instead of fear of limitations.
National Mourning Observance for Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother
The Thai government asked people to meditate, pray, and pay respect to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, whose life and service showed grace, commitment, and love for the Thai people.
Traisulee remarked, “The government asks all Thai people to send their condolences and pray for Her Majesty’s spirit to rest in peace.” “May her divine grace always protect the people of Thailand.” The explanation comes as Thailand enters a time of mourning for the late Queen Mother, during which people around the country will pay their respects and remember her. There will be no limitations or bans on entertainment or private activities during this time.
