Microsoft Unveils $17.5 Billion AI Investment for India
Microsoft has made its biggest investment in Asia: a $17.5 billion promise over four years to speed up India’s artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud ecosystem. This development shows that India is becoming a worldwide center for AI innovation.
This is in addition to the company’s previous $3 billion investment, which strengthens its relationship with the Indian government to improve AI infrastructure, workforce development, and digital sovereignty.
Partnership With India’s Leadership to Build AI Public Infrastructure
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi before making the announcement. The two leaders talked about adding to India’s AI agenda so that AI can power the country’s digital infrastructure.
The program has three main goals: size, skills, and sovereignty. These goals will make sure that India’s AI growth helps people across all industries and areas.
AI Integration to Benefit 310 Million Informal Workers
More than 310 million informal workers would be affected when Microsoft adds AI to two key public job platforms: e-Shram and the National Career Service (NCS).
These additions, which are based on Azure’s safe cloud, will improve India’s job market by making it easier for people to find jobs in several languages, using AI to match them with jobs, using predictive analytics, and automatically making resumes.

Expanding AI Infrastructure With New Hyperscale Data Centers
Microsoft’s biggest hyperscale facility in India will be a new cloud region in Hyderabad called India South Central. It will open in mid-2026.
Additionally, the business will add to its current data centers in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune, which will improve low-latency performance and meet India’s rising need for safe AI computing.
Doubling AI Skilling Commitment to 20 Million by 2030
Microsoft’s ADVANTA(I)GE India program will teach AI capabilities to 20 million Indians by 2030. The business has already taught 5.6 million people since the beginning of 2025.
This project intends to prepare India’s workers for the digital economy by working with government and business partners to create jobs and business possibilities.
Sovereign Cloud Solutions to Strengthen Digital Independence
Microsoft has released new Sovereign Public and Private Cloud services that are made to work with India’s rules and regulations. These services let businesses keep control of their data while leveraging Azure’s cutting-edge technology.
By the end of 2025, Microsoft 365 Copilot will also only handle data in India. This will make sure that critical industries are compliant and safer.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the investment a big step forward in India’s AI transition and lauded the country’s commitment to trust and sovereignty.
