Sergio Gor Formally Assumes Role as US Ambassador to India
On Wednesday, at an official ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, United States Ambassador Sergio Gor gave his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu. After the diplomatic events in New Delhi, he officially became the twenty-seventh U.S. ambassador to India.
Gor said it was an honor to work in India at a time when the two countries were working together more closely. He promised to move forward on shared goals like working together on defense, expanding trade, developing technology, and forming partnerships for critical minerals.

Ambassador Highlights Strength of US India Democratic Partnership
Gor said that the relationship was like a bond between the oldest democracy in the world and the largest democracy in the world. He said that the highest levels of political leadership in both countries were responsible for their cooperation.
He was sure that working together would take the partnership to new strategic heights. Gor said that respect for each other and a long-term commitment are important parts of diplomatic engagement.
Gor Underscores Trump Modi Relationship as Diplomatic Asset
Gor spoke at the US Embassy and said that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are real friends. He said that real friends can disagree but work things out in a positive way over time.
Gor remembered traveling a lot with Trump and seeing how important he thinks it is to have good relations with India. He also said that a future visit by the president could make the relationship between the two countries even stronger.

Focus on Defence Technology and Critical Minerals Cooperation
During his time in office, Gor said that modernization of the military and sharing of technology were his top priorities. He also said that working together on critical minerals is important for supply chain security and advanced manufacturing.
The ambassador said that these areas would be the main parts of a larger strategic and economic relationship. He stressed results that were useful instead of symbolic diplomacy.
Background in Government Communications and Policy Operations
Before moving to New Delhi, Gor worked in the White House as the Director of Presidential Personnel and Assistant to the President. He used to work for a number of organizations that helped people understand politics and policy.
He worked for the Republican National Committee and several congressional offices during his career. In 2008, Gor got a degree in political science and international affairs from George Washington University.
