Majority of Americans Oppose East Wing Demolition
A new survey by The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos revealed that 56% of Americans oppose President Donald Trump’s plan to demolish the East Wing of the White House. Conducted from October 24 to 28, the poll found that only 28% supported the controversial move.
The results highlight widespread skepticism toward Trump’s $300 million redevelopment project, which aims to replace the historic East Wing with a grand ballroom. The president said the new facility will be funded through private donations and his own money, not taxpayer funds.

White House East Wing Reduced to Rubble
By October 24, the East Wing, long used as office space for the First Lady and her staff had been completely demolished to make room for the ballroom. The White House stated that construction will be completed before Trump leaves office in January 2029.
Originally built in 1902 as the East Terrace under Theodore Roosevelt, the East Wing took its current form in 1942 when Franklin D. Roosevelt expanded it and added an underground presidential bunker during World War II.

According to Trump, the planned ballroom will cover 90,000 square feet roughly twice the size of the White House and host up to 1,000 guests for summits and national events.
