The Launch of a Transformative Initiative
The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has introduced CEB-i Hacks, a six-week innovation challenge designed to harness the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize travel and tourism in Cebu. The program is a collaborative effort aimed at transforming the region into a smart, tech-driven hub.
University students from diverse fields, including technology, tourism, business, and design, are invited to develop cutting-edge, AI-driven solutions. These solutions are intended to improve tourism experiences, streamline airport operations, and enhance destination marketing, effectively co-creating the future of tourism in the region.
Fostering a New Generation of Innovators
The program is not just a competition; it is a comprehensive learning experience. Participants will benefit from expert-led workshops, mentorship sessions, and hands-on access to powerful AI tools. In a strategic partnership with Google Cloud and Globe Business, the challenge utilizes Google Gemini, Google’s generative AI platform, to help participants brainstorm and build their real-world solutions.
This focus on education and practical application is designed to cultivate a new generation of professionals who are well-equipped to drive digital transformation in the travel and tourism sector.
Leveraging AI for a Sustainable Future
CEB-i Hacks is also exploring how AI can contribute to more inclusive and sustainable tourism development. The initiative aims to position Cebu as a leading hub for tourism innovation in the Visayas and beyond. By inviting young minds to tackle real-world problems with AI, the airport is taking a proactive approach to developing solutions that benefit both the industry and the local community.
The program will culminate in a “Demo Day” where the top teams will present their innovative ideas to a panel of industry experts and stakeholders. This provides a platform for the most promising solutions to gain visibility and potential support for implementation.
A Collaborative Effort
The success of CEB-i Hacks is built on collaboration. The program is hosted by The Sandbox Foundation and receives support from the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This partnership between the private sector, academic institutions, and business organizations ensures that the initiative is well-supported and aligned with the broader goals of regional development.
By bringing together different sectors, the challenge aims to create a holistic ecosystem of innovation that will have a lasting impact on Cebu’s tourism and technology landscapes.
