Egypt Inaugurates the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza
Egypt officially unveiled the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near the pyramids in Giza after twenty years of building. The billion-dollar structure is a cultural landmark and a sign of Egypt’s long-lasting history as the birthplace of civilization.
The museum covers an area of 500,000 square meters, making it the biggest museum in the world that is dedicated to one culture. The inaugural ceremony brought together politicians from across the world and cultural icons, showing how important it is to Egypt’s tourism and economy.

Landmark Expected to Bring in Tourists and Create Jobs
Experts in tourism say that the GEM will help Egypt’s tourist industry and create thousands of new jobs. Mohamed Othman, who is in charge of the Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee, stated that the museum’s opening might help Egypt get 30 million visitors a year.
Othman said that the opening of the museum is already creating new economic prospects in Giza and the areas around it. He stressed that new tour packages are being made just for the museum’s exhibits and history.
Has More Than 100,000 Artifacts from Ancient Egypt
The GEM has more than 100,000 items that tell the tale of Egypt’s history over thousands of years. One of its most impressive items is a 12-meter figure of Ramses II that welcomes visitors in the museum’s vast atrium.
The building also has a view of the Giza Pyramids, which connects Egypt’s historic treasures with modern technology. The way it is set up and the lighting are both meticulously planned to show off the items and tell the tale of Egypt’s culture.

Full Collection of Tutankhamun on Display for First Time
The museum’s most valuable item is the full collection of Tutankhamun’s riches, which are on exhibit together for the first time since 1922. There are 5,992 things to view, like his golden mask, regal carriages, and fancy coffins.
Sherif Fathy, the Minister of Tourism, stated that the display should get about 15,000 visitors per day. This means that around 5 million people attend each year, making it one of the most popular museums in the world.
Boosting Egypt’s Economic and Cultural Competitiveness
Abdel Fattah al-Assi, who used to be Egypt’s assistant minister of tourism, claimed that the GEM will help Egypt’s tourist industry compete better with other countries. He said that the museum is a strategic cultural investment that is as important to the economy as the Suez Canal.
He went on to say that money from ticket sales, events, and other connected activities will bring in important foreign cash for the economy. He said that the GEM fits with Egypt’s larger goal of long-term cultural and economic prosperity.
Tourism Growth Continues Despite Regional Challenges
Even though the region is unstable, Egypt’s tourist business has been quite strong. In 2024, 15.7 million people visited the country, bringing in $15.3 billion in tourist income, a 9% increase from the year before.
The government wants to bring in roughly 18 million visitors in 2025. The GEM’s global focus is intended to speed up this recovery and make Egypt an even better place to visit.
Infrastructure Upgrades Support Expanding Visitor Access
The museum is in a great position near the Pyramids, making it easy to get to and from Cairo and Giza. The new Sphinx International Airport and highway extensions are two recent infrastructural upgrades that make the place easier to get to.
Othman and al-Assi both said that big hotels and resorts are making new packages that fit with Cairo’s burgeoning cultural tourism industry. These changes should make Egypt’s offers more varied than just Red Sea resorts and historic sites.
The Grand Egyptian Museum Starts a New Era of Culture
The GEM is one of the biggest cultural undertakings in contemporary history and makes Egypt a world leader in protecting its legacy. It connects the past with the present with its mix of old objects and modern design.
Officials think that the museum will be a big part in bringing Egypt’s economy back to life and helping people learn more about its past. The GEM is more than a museum for Egypt; it’s a symbol of their identity, progress, and pride in their country.
