Fleet-Wide Cabin Upgrade Initiative Gains Momentum
Air Canada has announced an extensive expansion of its Airbus refit program, aimed at modernizing both mainline and regional aircraft. The initiative includes complete interior upgrades for all Airbus “Rouge” aircraft and new amenities for Air Canada Express jets operated by Jazz.
The project underscores the airline’s long-term goal of providing a consistent and elevated passenger experience across its domestic and international networks. As part of the modernization push, 15 Airbus A321s are already flying with upgraded interiors.

New Cabins, Seats, And Enhanced Passenger Comfort
The revamped Rouge Airbus fleet will feature reclining seats, improved ergonomics, and new in-flight entertainment systems. Each aircraft will also include larger XL overhead lockers to improve boarding efficiency and storage space for passengers.
Air Canada underlined that every part of the redesign, from seating configuration to ambient lighting, was tailored to give enhanced comfort and accessibility. The refreshed cabin standard is expected to set a new benchmark for short- and medium-haul routes.
Regional Fleet Set For Major Transformation
The Jazz-operated regional aircraft, including Embraer E175 and Mitsubishi CRJ-900 models, will also receive the upgraded cabin configuration starting in 2026. These updates align with Air Canada’s goal of harmonizing design quality across its network.
In addition, the airline is currently rolling out Wi-Fi connectivity across its Express fleet, with more than 55% of aircraft already completed. The De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops will also undergo a full cabin redesign, featuring new seats and interior finishes.

Focus On Connectivity And Passenger Convenience
Air Canada continues to invest in fast, free in-flight Wi-Fi to complement its loyalty program enhancements. Customers enrolled in Aeroplan will enjoy seamless access to onboard connectivity on eligible aircraft.
The carrier’s new in-flight entertainment (IFE) system promises a richer digital experience, offering on-demand movies, TV shows, and curated playlists accessible from both seatback screens and personal devices.
Sustainability And Efficiency At The Core Of The Program
Beyond passenger comfort, Air Canada’s refit program integrates sustainable materials and lightweight cabin components designed to reduce overall fuel consumption. The airline aims to balance luxury and responsibility by lowering carbon emissions through improved aircraft efficiency.
This sustainability-driven retrofit corresponds with Air Canada’s overall Net Zero 2050 environmental plan, which focuses on fleet renewal, waste reduction, and better operating efficiency.

Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, stressed that the renewal program underscores Air Canada’s focus on customer excellence. “When customers step onto an Air Canada aircraft, they should instantly feel comfort, care, and pride,” Nasr stated.
He added that every upgrade, whether for business or leisure travelers, was engineered to improve comfort and consistency. The new Rouge product will deliver cutting-edge entertainment, reclining seats, and fast, free Wi-Fi for all passengers.
