The Philippines is stepping boldly into the future of technology with the launch of its first-ever Quantum Information, Science, and Technology Conference, or QISTCon.ph 2025. The event, set to take place at JPark Island Resort & Waterpark in Cebu, aims to kickstart the country’s quantum technology ecosystem by bringing together local and international experts to explore how the Philippines can harness the power of quantum science.
Organised by the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) with support from the Department of Science and Technology–PCIEERD, the Open Quantum Institute, GESDA, and top academic institutions like Cebu Institute of Technology–University and the University of San Carlos, QISTCon.ph 2025 is designed to move beyond theory into practical planning for the nation’s quantum future.
A Gathering of Global and Local Minds
Scheduled over three days, the conference will host more than 100 invited participants from a diverse range of fields, including scientists, educators, startup founders, investors, policymakers, and students. Confirmed participants feature representatives from major tech players such as AWS, IBM, and Microsoft, alongside experts from Deloitte, SGV (Ernst & Young), academic researchers, deep-tech investors, and grassroots technology groups.
“QISTCon.ph isn’t just about showcasing quantum gadgets or futuristic theory. It’s about creating real conversations and concrete plans for the Philippines’ quantum future,” the organisers said in a statement.
Charting a Quantum Course for the Philippines
The event will centre discussions around five key focus areas:
First, industry involvement, which will encourage local companies to explore practical quantum applications by learning from global technology leaders. The goal is to ensure that Filipino businesses can prepare for and benefit from quantum advancements rather than be left behind.
Second, strategic planning, which will help create a clear and realistic roadmap tailored to the Philippines’ unique resources, challenges, and pool of talent.
Third, early education, which organisers believe is essential to building a sustainable ecosystem. They aim to introduce quantum concepts at every level of education, from grade school to graduate studies.
Fourth, regional ties, which organisers hope will strengthen collaboration with other South-east Asian countries to build a shared strategy for quantum development in the region.
Fifth, Responsible Growth, which will address the ethical, sustainable, and secure deployment of quantum technologies, ensuring that advances are harnessed for positive impact.
Leaders Behind QISTCon.ph 2025
The conference is a community-led initiative spearheaded by QCSP President Bobby Corpus. He is joined by a dedicated team, including Dylan Josh Lopez as Director for Partnerships, Jabez Ayson as Director of Operations, and Stefany Caparida, who leads QCSP’s chapter at MSU-IIT.
Their efforts are bolstered by collaboration with key figures such as Meraida Reyes and Ariane Jaraplasan from DOST-PCIEERD, Marianne Schoerling and Elias Huber of the Open Quantum Institute and GESDA, Cherry-Lyn Sta. Romana from Cebu Institute of Technology–University, and Dr. Roland Otadoy from the University of San Carlos. Members of the Responsible Quantum Computing/SEGQuRo international team will also contribute to shaping discussions at the conference.
A Signal to the World
Organisers emphasised that QISTCon.ph 2025 is not merely a conference but a powerful signal: the Philippines is ready to be an active player in the global quantum conversation.
“QISTCon.ph 2025 is more than just a conference; it’s a signal,” organisers declared. “A signal that the Philippines is ready to not only join the global quantum conversation but also help shape it.”
By taking these steps, the Philippines aims to establish itself as a centre of quantum research and innovation in South-east Asia. The conference reflects a growing recognition among leaders, educators, and industry players that quantum technology will be a defining force of the coming decades, one that demands preparation, investment, and international cooperation.
As Cebu prepares to welcome experts from around the world, QISTCon.ph 2025 marks a milestone not only for the country but for the broader region, setting the stage for a future where the Philippines could play a leading role in quantum advancements.
